Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph (Introduced 1998)
The Silver Seraph The first new model from Rolls-Royce for 18 years
The Silver Seraph has a new V 12 engine and 5 speed transmission. The engine, which is 5.4 litre, is an original design by BMW and has been further developed by a joint team of engineers working at Crewe and Munich.
Engine:
Alluminium alloy 5,379cc V12 60 degree configuration, 24 valves, single overhead camshaft to each bank, Stroke 79mm, bore 85mm, compression ratio 10:1
Transmission:
5 speed automatic with electronic actuation. Adaptive gear shift management. Transmission torque reduction control.
Braking system:
Power boost control system with 4-channel anti-lock (ABS). Large diameter ventilated micro alloy disc brakes with "single fist" callipers. Front diameter 314mm, rear 305mm, pad wear indicator system.
Traction assistance:
Automatic Stability Control (ASC) via engine torque reduction control and braking intervention to rear wheels. Speed sensors on all wheels. Aquaplaning detection
Suspension:
Independent double wishbone, front and rear. Computer controlled adaptive hydraulic damping system with response time of 1/100th of a second. Automatic ride height control with automatic load compensation.Weight distribution front-rear 50:50 (kerbside)
Steering:
Power assisted rack and pinion. Rotary open-centre type hydraulic control valve. 3.55 turns, lock to lock. Three section steering column; lower section de-couples on impact. Electric rake adjustment of steering wheel with automatic easy entry/exit feature - memory linked to settings for the drivers seat.
